QR ordering: own it or rent it?

Diners in Malaysia now expect to scan, order and pay without waving at anyone. The question is not whether you need QR ordering. It is whether you rent it forever or own it once.
What renting really costs
The going rate for QR menu platforms here is RM 150 to RM 400 per outlet, per month. Three outlets for three years lands between RM 16,000 and RM 43,000, and at the end you own nothing. Two quieter costs ride along: the platform brands your menu, and your order data, the most honest record of what your customers actually want, lives in their dashboard, not yours.
The three year table
| Renting | Owning | |
|---|---|---|
| Upfront | RM 0 | From RM 2,200 once |
| Monthly | RM 150 to 400 per outlet | RM 120 care, all outlets |
| Three years, 3 outlets | RM 16,000 to 43,000 | Under RM 7,000 |
| Your data | Theirs | Yours |
What owning looks like
A digital menu under your own branding, scan to order at the table, a kitchen view, reservations if you take them, and the whole thing on your own domain. New outlet? Add it. No new subscription. Menu change at 11pm? Edit it yourself, it is your system.
When renting is the right call
One outlet, testing whether QR ordering suits your service style at all: rent for six months, learn, then decide. A franchise whose HQ mandates a specific platform: not your fight. Everyone else is paying rent on software that could have been an asset by now.
